Community policing is the combination of local police with the community. The police work towards solving any problem going on in the community. If the neighbourhood has police in its back, it provides efficiency in problem-solving also. There is a system of partnership between the police workforce and the community.
Why is community policing needed?
The National Police Association feels that the police strategies followed in the past have been relatively stagnant. Further, there is a need to introduce technology for curbing crimes in societies. The citizens fear to visit the police even in case of need. But with community police, can discuss all their problems easily. People think that police accountability is not going good and community policing helps in this case. It takes authority so much time to only register an FIR.
Suggestions for improving community policing
The National Police Association is trying to bring a change in the structure of the police workforce. Likewise, the police system should structure to gain the trust of the people of the society.
- Efforts are taken to improve the relationship between police and society. There should be mutual trust so that people feel comfortable while approaching the police.
- The reputation of the police has been damaged to a great extent. There should be proper recruitment in the police workforce so that they can gain the trust of people.
Community police have been helping in so many instances. Besides, it has provided a safer environment for all the citizens. This way, the relationship is developing better. Also, community policing is a way towards making a better and tension free society.
